Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, announced plans for the “Energy City” projects in Al-Faw during an economic dialogue forum hosted by the Iraqi-American Bilateral Chamber of Commerce in Houston, Texas. The event was attended by Iraq’s Ministers of Oil and Electricity, senior advisors, and a large gathering of representatives from American companies, business leaders, investors, bankers, and investment and consulting institutions.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to remove all obstacles hindering investment and unveiled plans for the “Energy City” on the Al-Faw peninsula’s waterfront in southern Iraq. The project will include refining and crude oil processing complexes, gas production and aggregation facilities, and power generation stations, all integrated with Iraq’s strategic oil pipeline network and the Development Road corridor.

Mr. Al-Zaidi emphasized the government’s commitment to launching a new era of Iraqi-American cooperation in the energy sector, stressing that Iraq seeks genuine partners rather than contractors. He assured that the government will provide full guarantees to ensure a safe and supportive investment environment, accompanied by financial and banking reforms designed to facilitate corporate operations and expand job creation.

Mr. David Phillips, President of the Iraqi-American Bilateral Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the Prime Minister’s participation, highlighting the strong interest of Texas’s business community, the broader U.S. private sector, and leading American companies across various industries in investing and collaborating with Iraq. He underscored the promising opportunities within Iraq’s long-term plans to increase crude oil and gas production from developed fields, as well as to contribute to the energy sector more broadly.
