Early Completion of the Somer Block 2D Project
Under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Oil, Engineer Bassem Mohammed Khudair Al-Abbadi, and the supervision of the Deputy Minister for Extraction Affairs, Engineer Naseer Azeer Jabbar, with the follow-up of Dr. Osama Raouf Hussein, Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, the Company has achieved a new milestone by completing the Somer Block 2D seismic project 33 days ahead of schedule for Sinopec, within Al-Muthanna Governorate.
The Third Seismic Crew executed the project using vibrator energy sources, achieving 100% completion despite significant challenges, including harsh desert environmental conditions, difficult terrain, and security risks posed by remnants of war.
The technical and engineering teams demonstrated exceptional competence by adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety, completing the recording operations in just 87 days compared to the contractual period of 120 days — saving 33 days. This achievement reflects the Company’s accumulated expertise and professional capabilities.
The project contract was signed on March 24, 2026, with field operations commencing on April 17, 2026, and concluding with a total program length of 1,210.05 kilometers.
On this occasion, Dr. Osama Raouf Hussein praised the outstanding efforts of the Third Seismic Crew, affirming that this accomplishment embodies the Company’s high efficiency and accumulated national expertise. He emphasized that the Oil Exploration Company is capable of executing exploration projects with quality standards that match the best international practices, thereby supporting Iraq’s plans to develop its oil sector.
