About the Natural Resources Transparency Commission (NRTC)
In alignment with national commitments and governmental determination to promote the principles of governance and sound management, the Natural Resources Transparency Commission (NRTC) was established as an independent body dedicated to implementing and advancing the standards of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in the Republic of Iraq.
The management of national sovereign wealth—derived from oil, gas, and minerals—is not merely a matter of statistical figures or financial data; rather, it is an inherent societal right and a fundamental pillar for building a robust financial economy characterized by equity, citizenship, and sustainable development. From this perspective, the Commission is committed to fostering absolute transparency through the implementation of direct and systematic disclosure projects concerning all financial revenues, investment contracts, and cash flows resulting from extractive operations.
The Commission operates on a "multi-stakeholder group " approach, serving as an active bridge for cooperation among government institutions, national and international extractive companies, civil society organizations, trade unions, and independent experts. Through this integration, we aim to govern resource management, mitigate corruption, and monitor the environmental and social impacts of extractive activities, ensuring that these wealth reserves translate into an improved standard of living for every citizen.
For us, transparency is a daily operational practice and a long-term strategy aimed at building trust between citizens and institutions, developing national impact measurement indicators, and strengthening Iraq's standing in international forums as a leading nation in resource disclosure and prudent management.
