Prime Minister Discusses Expanding Energy Investments and Export Infrastructure with Chevron
WASHINGTON — Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi met today, Thursday, with the President of Chevron Corporation, Mr. Mark Nelson, and members of the company’s Board of Directors at Chevron’s headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Oil Eng. Bassem Mohammad Khudair Al-Abbadi, the Minister of Electricity, the Chairman of the Advisory Commission, Director General of the Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) Eng. Ali Nizar Al-Shatri, along with several advisors and the Iraqi Ambassador to Washington.
During the discussions, the Prime Minister called on Chevron to accelerate and expand its operations in Iraq to support the government’s strategic objectives: boosting crude oil production, enhancing national refining capabilities, and diversifying oil export outlets.
His Excellency reaffirmed the government’s readiness to allocate the necessary land and grant required approvals to establish oil refining complexes and petrochemical infrastructure. He also emphasized increasing gas production capacity and transferring advanced technology to Iraq to expedite project execution and achieve broader economic development goals.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to fostering an attractive investment environment for international corporations, thereby strengthening the national economy, creating job opportunities, and addressing developmental challenges.
For his part, Mr. Mark Nelson expressed Chevron’s strong interest in investing in southern Iraqi oilfields, constructing pipelines to regional ports, and developing storage facilities, while actively working to shorten project implementation timelines.
